Taking a Step Back to Move Forward: A Single Parent Blog Reset

Real life, real limits, and a more sustainable path as a solo parent

I’ve been away from this blog for a few months, and I wanted to explain why.

2025 taught me a lot, mostly about limits, balance, and what’s actually sustainable as a single parent. I started this blog motivated and optimistic. However, I also bit off more than I could realistically manage.

Between trying to keep up with the posting pace of other successful bloggers and navigating an unexpectedly challenging school year for my kids, something had to give. Stepping away wasn’t part of the plan, but it became necessary.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re falling behind despite doing your best, this post is for you.

2025 Lessons Learned

1. I Tried to Do Too Much, Too Fast

I think I bit off more than I could chew for 2025. I was trying to replicate other bloggers’ processes and posting schedules instead of building something that worked for my life. I definitely overthought it.

On top of that, the new school year for my kids has been extremely challenging.

2. Posting Frequency Isn’t the Measure of Success

First, I’m not going to pressure myself to post frequently anymore. Initially, I set a goal to post once or twice a week. As a single parent to three kids, it just wasn’t sustainable, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to make it work.

In 2026, I’ll post when I can, as life allows. I’m going to focus on consistency, but also have to be realistic about my time availability as a single parent. I’m going to try really hard not to guilt-trip myself if I post less than I’d like!

3. Letting Go of “Perfect”

Second, I tried to be too perfect, with posts, plans, and goals. I knew I would need to stay agile, and I felt motivated going in. But life as a solo parent is the priority, and that comes first.

This year, I’m shifting my mindset from “perfect” to “done.” Progress over perfection.

4. Focus Beats Ambition (For Now)

Third, I had too many ideas for income diversification. The motivation was there, but I had too many directions and ideas. My ambition outpaced my available time, and my expectations weren’t realistic.

For now, I’m narrowing my focus on this blog. Eventually, I’d love to freelance and invest in real estate, but right now, that’s not realistic, and that’s okay.

What This Means for the Blog Going Forward

What does this mean for my blog? I want this space to reflect real life as a single parent, not an unrealistic version of productivity or hustling. My goal is to share what I’m learning as I navigate finances, home life, and solo parenting.

In 2026, I’m simplifying and focusing on:

  • Financial planning and budgeting from a single-parent perspective
  • Being intentional with money and time
  • Budget-conscious home projects and DIY improvements
  • Creating systems at home that reduce stress and increase stability

What’s Coming Next

I don’t have a detailed content calendar mapped out for 2026. I have some real projects that need to get done, like home organization, gardening, decluttering (are you ever done with decluttering?), and systems that make daily life easier as a single parent. That’s what I’ll be writing about.

I hope you’ll follow along. And if there’s something specific you’d like to see covered, please feel free to leave a comment or reach out.
