I didn’t mean to step away from the blog—it just happened. Life piled up, the calendar filled, and suddenly, weeks went by.
Things always get hectic at the end of the school year. This year, it was even more chaotic because we were traveling to visit family and left the day after school ended. This led to me not having the extra time to focus on posting on this blog.
It’s an exciting time for the blog as I embark on a fresh start. My focus is evolving, and I’m eager to share this journey with you.
- I’m going to pursue finding a new W-2 job actively
- I am going to be focusing on gig work by getting my Fiverr and UpWork profiles started
- I am interested in getting into Real Estate
Actively Applying for a New Job
There have been some recent developments at my W-2 job. For a few years now, I have felt that perhaps it’s not a good place to continue working. An event occurred that prompted me to act and develop an exit plan.
My immediate actions:
- I updated my resume, and a friend is currently reviewing it
- I updated my LinkedIn profile
- I’m trying LinkedIn Premium on the 30-day trial
- I created job alerts on Indeed, Google Jobs, and LinkedIn
My Worries
I’m concerned about the current state of the economy and all the ghost jobs being posted. A few years ago, I tried finding a new job and did not receive a single callback. Things at my company have not improved since then, and I need to refocus on my efforts.
I have doubts… so many doubts and worries.
- Will I get any interviews?
- Is this a bad time to change jobs?
- Am I taking a risk changing jobs with the current state of the economy?
- Is the grass really greener, or will things just be the same, but at a different company?
I don’t think staying at this job is good for my mental health, and it’s starting to impact me outside of work hours.
I was not anticipating this change, as I thought I could “stick it out” for the perceived stability. The reality, however, is that companies are not always loyal to their employees, and working in a toxic work environment is detrimental to one’s health.
Gig Work – Fiverr and UpWork
I admit to being intimidated by getting started on these platforms. Partly, this is because I was unsure what types of gigs would be a good fit for me. However, now is the time to start taking this seriously and moving things forward.
Real Estate
I never thought I’d be interested in getting into real estate. But here I am, totally wanting to start investing. Initially, I had planned to purchase my first investment home in the next year (2026). However, now that I’m planning to change jobs, I may have to hold off and delay this income stream until I secure a new job and have been in the new position for at least a year, so that I can ensure I’m eligible for a home loan.
In the meantime, I’m working on building out a real estate pipeline tracking system in Smartsheet. I need to understand my target market better and have started to develop a tracking system: lead à qualification à offer à Negotiation à close-win / close-lost. I’m also developing a property management tracking system and an asset management tracker.

It’s going to be a delicate balance of working full-time, actively applying for a new job (and hopefully securing interviews), keeping up with the blog, trying to get started in gig work, focusing on my health, and solo parenting full-time with a child home for the summer break.
I’m trying to take it one week at a time, and then one day at a time. Using my journal to help keep me on track.
What about you?
I know I’m juggling a lot right now, and honestly, it’s a little overwhelming. But I also know I’m not the only one trying to get back on track after life throws a curveball (or three). If you’ve taken a break from something—your blog, a side hustle, or even just time for yourself—I’d love to hear how you found your way back.
Let me know:
- Have you ever stepped away from a personal goal or project? What helped you ease back into it?
- Do any of the things I’m working on—changing jobs, gig work, or real estate—hit close to home for you right now?
- What kind of content would be most helpful or encouraging to see on the blog in the future?
Drop a comment or send me a message—I’m all ears and always appreciate the support.
